Help bright
minds grow.

Train to teach children aged 5 to 11, developing your knowledge and classroom practice across the Primary curriculum.

A teacher and primary pupils working through a learning activity

Learn through school experience.

Our Primary programme combines experience in schools with professional learning. You will explore teaching across Key Stages 1 and 2, while developing your understanding of the wider educational journey.

Contrasting placements give you opportunities to observe experienced teachers, develop your practice and reflect on what helps children learn. Your mentor, lead mentor and university curriculum specialists support your development.

Your training year

  • Learn through two contrasting school placements.
  • Develop subject and phase knowledge through professional training.
  • Connect evidence with practice through Intensive Training and Practice experiences.
  • Reflect on lessons and plan your next steps with support from mentors.

What you work towards

On successful completion, the programme leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), through the partnership with Liverpool Hope University.

Training close to home

HFC works with schools across the region. Tell us about your travel needs early so that you can understand how placement arrangements work. Allocation depends on the programme and available placements; a particular school cannot be guaranteed.

Before you apply

Check the entry requirements for your chosen course, explore the financial commitments and ask about any qualifications or circumstances you want to discuss.
